Ensembles Come Together For Spring Concert

March 21, 2026 [Huntersville, North Carolina] – On March 21, three NCYO ensembles came together to deliver an inspiring afternoon of music at Ambassador Christian School, showcasing the dedication and artistry of young musicians across three groups.

The Sinfonia Strings Ensemble opened the performance with a charming and expressive set. Their rendition of Courtly Dance and Procession by Brian Balmages captured a sense of elegance and movement, while the traditional Welsh folk song The Ash Grove, arranged by Michael Hopkins, brought warmth and lyricism to the stage. They concluded with Force of Nature by Brian Balmages, a dynamic piece that highlighted the ensemble’s growing confidence and energy.

The Philharmonic followed with an engaging and varied program. Their performance of Overture to Lucio Silla by Mozart, arranged by Sandra Dackow, was crisp and lively, demonstrating stylistic precision. A crowd favorite, Music from La La Land by Justin Hurwitz and arranged by Robert Longfield, added a modern and cinematic flair. They closed with Fiddle Fury by Kathryn Griesinger, an energetic and rhythmic piece that showcased the group’s technical skill and spirited playing.

The afternoon culminated with the full Orchestra’s powerful performance of Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor, “From the New World”. Performing the first movement (Adagio – Allegro molto) and the fourth movement (Allegro con fuoco), the orchestra delivered a rich and compelling interpretation, full of contrast, intensity, and emotional depth.

Overall, the concert was a testament to the hard work of the students and their instructors, as well as the vibrant musical community they are building together. The audience left with a sense of pride and excitement for what these talented young musicians will accomplish next.
