NCYO Spends Day On UNCC Campus

On October 25, NCYO students had the opportunity to spend the morning at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for an inspiring Day on Campus experience. The visit offered students an inside look at the university and a chance to connect directly with faculty, staff, and student musicians from UNCC’s Department of Music.

The morning began with a series of studio classes and sectional workshops led by UNCC faculty members, giving students a chance to work in smaller groups, explore new techniques, and gain valuable insight from collegiate-level instructors. Between sessions, students enjoyed a brief snack break with cookies graciously provided by UNCC, before gathering together for the culminating event of the day — a combined rehearsal featuring both the NCYO and UNCC Orchestras. The joint ensemble prepared for their upcoming side-by-side concert on November 20, where middle school, high school, and college musicians will perform together on stage.

The Day on Campus served as a wonderful opportunity for NCYO students to experience university life firsthand, meet professors and music faculty, and rehearse alongside their collegiate orchestral counterparts. NCYO is grateful to Alan Yamamoto, Joe Skillen, and the UNCC Department of Music for welcoming our students and providing such an enriching and memorable experience.
