Wind Ensembles Delight With Spring Concert

March, 2, 2026, [Davidson, North Carolina] On March 2 at 6:30 p.m., the NCYO Wind Ensembles presented an engaging and vibrant concert at Davidson College Presbyterian Church, highlighting the talent and versatility of its young musicians across multiple groups.

The evening began with the Junior Woodwind Ensemble, who set a warm and expressive tone with Chorale from Jupiter by Gustav Holst, arranged by Nick Ritter. Their performance carried a rich, resonant sound, followed by a lively and spirited rendition of Molly on the Shore by Percy Grainger, also arranged by Nick Ritter, which showcased their growing technical agility and ensemble cohesion.

Next, the Junior Brass Ensemble took the stage with a bold and confident program. They performed The Siege by Ryan Meeboer, delivering strong, unified playing, and followed with “Andaluza” (Spanish Dance No. 5) by Enrique Granados, arranged by David Marlatt. This piece added a touch of flair and expressive contrast, highlighting the ensemble’s dynamic range.

The Brass Ensemble continued the program with a refined and polished performance. Their interpretation of the Overture from Divertimento for Brass Quintet by Karel Husa demonstrated precision and balance, while “Prayer” from Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck offered a lyrical and expressive moment that resonated beautifully in the church setting.

The concert concluded with the Woodwind Ensemble, who brought energy and color to the final set. Their performance of Cumberland Cross by Carl Strommen was rhythmic and engaging, while Blue Ridge Reel by Brian Balmages closed the evening on a lively and uplifting note, leaving the audience energized and impressed.
