NCYO Helps Spread The Joy of Reading

April 17, 2025 [Charlotte, North Carolina] – Throughout the month of April, NCYO students and parents came together to collect books for Promising Pages, an organization dedicated to giving local children access to books in Charlotte. According to their website, “an estimated 60,000 children in Charlotte are living in a book desert,” and “Home libraries are often seen as a luxury for under-resourced families” in the community. NCYO collected 295 new and gently loved books aimed at children from birth to high school and delivered them to Dana Powell, Operations Manager at Promising Pages.

Early access to books, much like early access music education, is paramount in a child’s personal development and academic success. This access helps spark creativity, stokes curiosity, lays a foundation of empathy, and builds important language skills, all while fostering a lifelong love of reading and learning.
